Perinatal Mental Health

Perinatal Mental Health refers to the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders that present during the period of time beginning with pregnancy and moving through the first year postpartum. However, related symptoms can also present beyond the first year. Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) occur not only the child-bearing parent, but are often experienced by partners as well.

Research indicates that up to 15-20% of child-bearing parents experience significant symptoms of depression and anxiety during pregnancy and/or the first 12 months postpartum. Onset can occur anytime during that time frame. Roughly 10% of partners experience depression, mood, or anxiety problems as well.

These symptoms are temporary and treatable. We are affirming of clients from all backgrounds and cultures, including those who identify as part of the LGBTQI populations and those in polyamorous and non-monogamous family structures.
